Saliva: not the usual topic of everyday conversations perhaps because of its somewhat “yuck” factor and it’s something that people tend to take for granted. However, when an individual cannot produce sufficient quantities, it results to various auto-immune disorders (in particular Sjögren’s Syndrome) from medication usage (of which over 1000 are associated with dryness). It can also be a result of HIV/AIDs, or having been treated with immuno- or radiation therapy for head-and-neck cancers that ultimately leads to DRY MOUTH. Having a dry mouth brings devastating effects to the quality of life including a unique characteristic of dental decay (dissimilar to that associated with decay from excess sweets or neglect of good oral hygiene); difficulty speaking, eating, swallowing, and tasting; and compromised oral health.

This is where I come in. As a Prosthodontist, I am a specialist who replaces missing teeth or other oro-facial components in the form of crowns, bridges, partial and complete dentures, as well as implants. As an Immunologist, my research focus is on various treatments and preventive measures associated with dry mouth, also known as xerostomia and/or hyposalivation.

As you may have noticed, I tend to “hoard” letters after my name; always learning. In addition to being on the Medical Advisory Board of the Sjögren’s Society of Canada, I am a part of their Board of Directors as well. I am delighted to be part of the dental team at The Accolade Dental Centre. If I may be of any assistance to you, please let me know. I’m here to listen and to help.
